First Visit

What happens on your first visit?

On your first visit it is essential to perform an initial consultation. The consultation generally takes one hour and includes obtaining all of the details of why you are visiting, a full medical history and a thorough physical examination. Information such as the duration and onset of your complaint, past surgeries or accidents and an understanding of your current health status are vital for any therapist to ascertain the correct working diagnosis.

Appropriate orthopedic and neurological tests are carried out during the physical examination. All this must be carried out before making a decision whether or not you are a suitable candidate for treatment. Prior to having any treatment at the clinic an explanation of the findings will be given and a plan of care recommended. The majority of people who attend a consultation will also have treatment that day. However in some cases the complaint is not within the scope of the clinic. In this case, you will be referred to the competent authority.

Consideration of the possible health benefits available through care in conjunction with any other appropriate medical therapy is also given.

Subsequent visits

Once you have gone through the initial consultation any subsequent visits you make will take approximately 30 minutes. The visit will involve an update on how you have been progressing and, if appropriate, you will receive treatment and further advice on home care and rehabilitation. Along with Shoulder Manipulationthe treatment offered, individual specific advice about your lifestyle, work and exercise is given. Treating the condition you have come to the clinic about is a priority for most people. However preventative measures to try and avoid causing damage or injury are equally important to the care given. For some they may need help in managing the condition going forward.
