Attending for care is only a part of your healing from injury and journey back to full health. There are many useful things you can do at home to aid your recovery and get the most out of care.
During your care turn your awareness internally to your body and let go of the outside pressures. Listen to your body and let go of thoughts of home, work and any stresses in your life. If you find this difficult to do, focus on your breathing. Pay attention to whether or not your chest or belly expands as you breathe deeply. See the short video at the end of this post showing the difference between breathing into your chest and into your belly.
After your treatment, take a short walk of about 10 minutes. Avoid sitting down straight away, allow your body to adjust to the positive changes that have just been made. Continue deep purposeful breaths during this post-care phase to maximise benefits. Following treatment be gentle with yourself that day. Rushing back into a stressful office or home environment will build up tension again. It may not be possible to avoid these things completely but try to choose which activities are absolutely necessary and others that can perhaps wait. Drink lots of water on the day of treatment to help flush out any of the toxins that have been released during care. Avoid stimulants such as alcohol, coffee or tobacco on the day of treatment. If possible, head to bed that little bit earlier on the day of treatment too. Sleep is your body’s time to process the day’s activities and repair to be ready for the next day.
